BCNR timeframe, how long does it take to get a decision?

Hello ladies and gentlemen

On February 12, 2019 me and my lawyer submitted a packet to the BCNR to get my re4 code changed to reenlist back in the service (my discharge is honorable) and get some benefits. I haven't heard much from the BCNR since then except for a email giving me my docket number and almost two months ago I got a AO (advisory opinion) that was mostly agreeable to my case. I had 30 days from when I received the letter to get a rebuttal in. Which I and my lawyer did create. Ever since then I haven't heard or had them reach out to me since then. Right now it's been a little over 13.5 months since I've had my case pending. I know according to statistics that the BCNR states is that 90% of cases are done within 12 months and the other 10% are done in 12-18 months, but I know a lot of people who waited well over 18 months to get a response. I hope I don't end up as one of those guys. I do hear that once you get an AO you're not that far off from getting a decision made. So how much longer after the AO?

I wish there was a way to accurately get a status update but they don't seem to work. I know of the email and I rarely ever get a response when I send one. In the rare chance they do respond to me it's usually the same thing. I just get told that they have a "high number of applicants and how they get 20,000 applicants a year" or some nonsense like that. I know of the phone number that you could call but no one ever answers it in anyway shape and form. I can't even leave a message because the voicebox is always full. In fact out of all the people I know who've gone through this process none of them have ever had success with calling them.

You are paying a lawyer - what does he say?

He says usually just a couple of months after getting an AO. Although he does have cases that took much longer than that after getting an AO.

First off welcome and thank you for you service.

Sorry to say but your question is BEST addressed by your lawyer, thats why your going to pay him/her..

Based on the information at hand all you will find here are guesses, almost impossible to give any real answer...

My BCNR decision took from Sept. 2007 to Feb. 2009, so about 1 year, 5 months.  I received the advisory opinion in Dec. 2008 and replied later the same month.  Your decision should be coming soon, but you should plan to be patient as the virus may affect the ability for the board to meet.

Yes, I have taken into consideration that this virus outbreak will delay things. Not just with my case but everyone else’s as well. I hear that most of those guys are working remotely from home right now.

Would you by any chance know how to get an update from the BCNR? The email never gives me an update and that’s when they rarely respond. The phone number on their website never picks up or gives you the option of leaving a message.

I remember talking to a couple of people on the phone over the course of 4 separate cases with the BCNR (won 3, lost 1).  I think in one instance they called me to get some info/clarification, and in another instance I left a message and they (eventually) called me back.  However, I have no clue what phone number I used since it was a long time ago.
